To All -
I have had several ARC ECS queries concerning what role ARC ECS may assume in assisting the Haitian relief effort. The (attached, below after this e-mail) ARRL bulletin was forwarded to me by our Joe Berrios/WB2BWU.
First, please e-mail me (
) with your availability, HF, PC, Echolink, Skype, etc. station capabilities and (not required but helpful) if you can accommodate another member at your location to assist.
In discussions with ARC GNY Disaster's Sidney Ko/K0SID, I need any and all ARC ECS members who have HF & VHF/UHF capability, as well as Internet capability, to monitor Emergency operations on the following frequencies:
- 7.045 and 3.720 MHz (IARU Region 2 nets), Area C Emergency Coordinator, Arnie Coro/CO2KK - multi-national response by hams; monitor the frequencies but keep them clear of non-essential traffic.
- 14.265, 7.265 and 3.977MHz (SATERN Salvation Army nets), and
- 14.300 MHz (Intercontinental Assistance andTraffic Net).
- The International Radio Emergency Support Coalition(IRESC) is also active on EchoLink node 278173.
- IARU Region 2 Area C Emergency Coordinator, Arnie Coro, CO2KK, is coordinating a multi-national response by hams.
As you monitor and if there's a question on any of the nets as to the whereabouts of specific people, you may check that info at: http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/WFL_HTI.NSF/DocIndex/locate_eng?opendocument If you get a "match", check into that net and so inform net control. Then advise net control that the master database that you consulted is at icrc.org and that should assist others in re-directing such traffic more effectively and efficiently.
IMPORTANT! - Sidney and I discussed protocol (i.e. - what to do) in the event of any "independent",i.e. - non-net amateur HF operation, that any of us may encounter if we "hunt" on 20M, 40M or 80M, requesting Health & Welfare assistance for families in search of info on loved ones. Please follow this protocol:
Handling is as follows:
- Take down the information on each person.
- Go to http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/WFL_HTI.NSF/DocIndex/locate_eng?opendocument (you may want to have that already active on your PC) and follow the instructions for either attempting to locate or if not registered, registering the information on the person(s).
- Then send an e-mail with the contact info to Sidney Ko at
(copy me and Phil Nelson/N2PN as well).
Depending on the response from our membership, I desire to have at least one HF station on each band, and one additional station as a "rover" to listen for any "stray" transmissions that are not on any of the nets. This is where your "contest" skills will come in handy and are critical.
Good luck and let's do what we can in a professional and helpful manner.
